This is Nahla. I dropped her off this morning around 930am this morning at Cross Lanes Boarding Kennel. This was her second time being there. This is where she died. I received no phone call, heads up, or even notice about her death until I had been in the office about 5-10 min chatting with the girl who took them this morning. When I walked in, I noticed she had a whole different demeanor than when I dropped her off. I thought to myself, she must have had a long day. I asked her how they did today. I was told they did good. I talked to her about their nail cutting and bathing services for my dog. I made an appointment. I saw the man who brought the animals making his way to the office. He was only carrying two cat carriers. He sat them on the counter. He said there's a problem with Nahlah. I said, "Oh, did her temporary carrier break. I looked at new ones online to get today. Then outta nowhere he said uhm I think your cat might be dead. I felt like I had been hit by a ton of bricks. I didn't believe what I had just heard. How does a perfectly healthy almost 2 year old cat end up dead in 8 hours?!! I asked where she was. He kept repeating that we were on break from 11-230pm as a response to every question I asked. The girl was quiet. My mom had come to help me pick them up because of my back issues. She came inside. I was being led to the upper house. The room I had been told they where kept in was described to me as a room with a couch, TV, cat condos, and window perches. I was told there was enough room for my 3 cats and my 45lb dog. They live at home in peace. They sleep and play together. I had asked and been told that only my animals would be in that room. The room I walked into was small and crowded. It had several large cages that reminded me of bird cages, a small wooden TV stand, and every corner packed. It had someone elses cat in one of the cages. Nahla was on the bottom shelf of the TV stand where I found her. I touched her. She was very stiff and very cold. She didn't move when she was picked up. That takes hours. I will attach a screenshot of how long it takes for them to reach that condition. I had a full-on panic attack and broke down again. Every question my mom or myself managed to get out was answered with we are on break from 11-230! He did carefully wrap her up and carry her down for me. When I arrived back into the office the owner was there. Everyone was either quiet or saying we are on break from 11-230! I asked each one over and over when was the last time anyone actually saw them? No answers. I asked, did my dog or another dog do something? If so, please tell me so I know if I need to be concerned about my dog around my other cats. Did she get sick?? Where my other animals exposed to something? Do I need to take them to a vet?? I needed to know for Nahla, but I also needed these answers for my surviving animals!! I needed to know my next steps!! I needed to make sure my other babies were okay. Is there a video in the rooms?? Again, no discernable answer. I will hear the words "We were on break from 11-230" in my nightmares. I know I should have asked for pictures before I took them there. I read Google reviews until I was cross-eyed. If it were an accident or illness, I would have even understood that. What I can't understand is how I came back to a cat that had clearly been dead for hours and fully stiff and cold (rigor mortise) and no one being able to tell me the last time they had checked on or physically seen one my babies. A simple phone call to say we have a problem in a timely manner I could have understood. Please do better. Please be better. Animal or not she was a member of this family. RIP Nahla. We love and will miss you. ❤️
